Passu Cones - Hunza Valley
Passu is located along the Hunza River, about 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Gulmit, the Tehsil headquarters of Gojal, in Gilgit-Baltistan and about 147 kilometres (91 mi) upriver from Gilgit.
Passu is a popular tourist destination in Pakistan and all over the world because of its easily accessible sweeping landscapes and views of the 7,478 m (24,534 ft) tall Passu Sar mountain, the Passu Glacier, and Tupopdan 6,106m (20,033 ft)
The serrated peaks of Passu are very alluring. Passu is a peaceful valley surrounded by these magnificent mountains and with the river flowing through it. Glaciers and their rivers run across.
Tupopdan 6,106 metres (20,033 ft) also known as 'Passu Cones' or 'Passu Cathedral', lies to the north of the Gulmit village in Gojal Valley.
It is the most photographed peak of the region. Also nearby are the high peaks of Pasu Sar, Shispare Sar, and Batura.
The peculiar pointed shape of the numerous peaks located on a single massif and their visibility from most areas in Gulkin, Gulmit, Hussein and Passu areas make them famous.
You get some great ones on the hikes to Borit Glacier, to the Passu suspension bridge, as well as when beginning the trek up the left side of the Passu Glacier.
Not many people have climbed the various peaks in Passu Cones though.
Climbing the peaks will be a serious effort that would require proper planning.
Some of the peaks are really steep and might involve a technical climb.
