Passu Glacier - Hunza Valley
Passu glacier about 15 minute drive or 1-2 hours walk from Borith Lake.
The glacier is around 21 km long and it covers an area around 115 sq km. The height of Passu Glacier is 7,478 m( 24,534 ft).
Passu Glacier is visible from the Karakoram highway and can be seen on the way towards Khunjerab pass. It is an awesome sight to see the glacier coming off the mountains.
Passu glacier is linked with "Batura Glacier", a 57 km (35 mi) long, one of the largest and longest glaciers outside of the polar regions.
Passu glacier can be accessed on hikes up the left side (south) from Passu village.
Passu Glacier is also known as a dangerous glacier where every year trekkers die needlessly.
Its continually changing icy surface creates a maze of unforgiving crevasses and slippery seracs.
It was first climbed by Captain Sher Khan (later colonel) who was part of joint Pakistan, Japan army expedition in 1978.
The Trek duration is 3-4 days from Borit Village up to Patun Das and back to Passu Village .
