This song appears on the album Tell Me I Can Fix This On My Own - http://deerful.bandcamp.com. HQ audio and stems available at Patreon, as ever: / deerful - info on what this video is, and how I did it, under here!
--- ABOUT THE VIDEO --
This was made in the live-coding language ixi lang, which is super easy and extremely fun - I am not really using it to its full live capabilities here, since I pre-prepared a bunch of loops and am just triggering them as I need them, but there's a lot more you can do with it - I wrote this song entirely using the IDE and it's brilliant.
If you are live-coding inclined (and have a Mac - alas there is no PC version :( ), you can get ixi lang here - http://www.ixi-audio.net/ixilang/, and my performance code is freely available at my Github -https://github.com/emmawinston/ixilan... (though it uses a bunch of samples which I don't think I can just open-source along with everything else so it won't work straight out of the box, sorry!).
Lyrics:
water and sunlight and kind words and keeping things alive
shielding against all the darkness in order to survive
roots growing down through the earth to some corner to entwine with
finding the light at the angle our faces can align with
what does it feel like to want to go on
look out the window the stars are all gone
what does it feel like to take this for granted
what does it feel like to bloom where you’re planted
there in the morning the seedlings rise lightly through the ground
keep pushing onwards and upwards but never make a sound
see through the window the sunlight that pulls us from our dream
grow imperceptibly slowly but faster than it seems
