According to a news storey, a seasoned keeper of Loch Ness monster sightings is concerned that Nessie hasn't been seen in well over a year and could be extinct. This is the only instance of such a protracted gap in sightings in almost 90 years.
According to the BBC News, Gary Campbell, a resident of Inverness in the
United Kingdom, has been compiling a list of Loch Ness monster sightings for the past 17 years and dates the sightings back about 1,500 years.
According to Campbell, "It's incredibly terrible news and we don't know where she's gone." Since the turn of the century, there have been fewer sightings of Nessie, but this is the first time in nearly 90 years that she has not been seen at all.
Nessie hasn't always been present; in fact, there weren't any accounts of the creature until less than a century ago. The Loch Ness monster first gained attention in 1933 when a local newspaper article described a splashing in the water that appeared to be caused "by two ducks fighting" rather than a huge head or hump. A well-known photograph of a mystery head and neck that gave Nessie international recognition was subsequently shown to be a fraud.
According to some, the Loch Ness monster first surfaced in A.D. 565, when St. Columba allegedly repelled a huge beast that was posing a threat to a man in the Ness River, which empties into the lake. However, it is merely one of many stories from the Catholic Church about virtuous saints defeating serpents and dragons to represent Satan.
According to sceptics, there most likely isn't any monster in the lake at all. However, the absence of sightings is a major concern for those who hold the belief that the creature exists. Even if Nessie still existed, it is most likely no longer there given that no reports of it have been made in the past 18 months.
