So I'm doing this jigsaw of New York. And it's taken me a bit longer than I thought. And whilst I've been doing it, I've been thinking about, well, what's the link between doing a jigsaw and leadership?
Well, the one thing that's really important with a jigsaw is to be able to see the big picture. So without the big picture, it's almost impossible for me to get on and choose how I go about doing this jigsaw.
And it's a reminder that when we delegate and give people responsibility, we need to be really clear about what that big picture looks like. And we don't need to just mention it once.
The practice that we choose is “continuously repeat the message.” And in this case, it's to continuously have a sense of what the big picture is. What are we aiming to achieve? Because without that, it will be harder for people to understand what the right thing to do is, and harder to get a sense of purpose as to why we're doing this.
So my Nudge to you this week is: How are you bringing the big picture into your team's work?
