The Sennheiser XS Wireless Digital (XSW-D) Lavalier and ENG sets are flexible and affordable wireless microphone options for the Youtuber, vloger, or filmmaker on a budget. This in-depth review, test, and tutorial covers unboxing, setup including light indicators, indoor and outdoor range and audio tests, samples, and comparisons with other microphones including the Zoom H1 recorder and the Rode VideoMicro. The XSW-D is a great portable option due to its small size, quality build, and respectable battery life. However, it is limited by the inability to attenuate the signal strength, just okay indoor range, and somewhat high in-camera noise floor.

This set could be improved by adding a way to decrease the signal strength by least -10db and -20db. The mic performed respectably at the lowest setting on the Panasonic G85, and especially when the microphone limiter is utilized. However, its ability to modulate gain and volume is lacking, and this could result in audio clipping if your camera lacks a limiter.
Overall the XSW-D lavalier and ENG sets performed well given their price and size, and are a good option for those wanting a wireless microphone that is smaller than the Rode RodeLink, and for those not wanting to pay for the higher priced Sennheiser AVX set. The XS Wireless system also stands out because of its ability to use an XLR transmitter for wireless handheld microphones and boom mics.
