Is Fox News RIGHT? Are e-Bikes Really KILLING PEOPLE?... It's... Complicated.
Electric bicycles, e-scooters and electric unicycles (as well as other forms of personal micro mobility) are a far more affordable way of dumping the pump and going with a clean, green, transportation alternative to an internal combustion-engined vehicle.
But recent news reporting suggests that, despite e-bike sales eclipsing plug-in hybrid and battery electric cars, fires involving battery electric vehicles are on the rise. They're destroying property - and they're sometimes killing their owners.
So today, we're going to do the unthinkable. We're going to agree that Fox News might be right when it says e-bikes are exploding and killing people... but... not perhaps as often as you might think.
We're going to discuss e-bike market share, why e-bike fires are a more common problem in New York than anywhere else, and explaining how you can make sure you don't fall victim to this scary phenomenon.
