June 8, 2022 Multiple Long-Track Tornadoes - WHIO Weather Coverage

On Wednesday, June 8, 2022 a low pressure system, and associated warm front assisted with the evolution of four tornadoes within the Miami Valley of Western Ohio. There were a total of six tornadoes confirmed within the Warning Coverage Area of the National Weather Service office in Wilmington, Ohio, the office in charge of this portion of the United States.

Damage from this particular event includes the Meijer Distribution Center, located near Tipp City, Ohio, which is shown in this video. Some of these same locations in Miami County, Ohio were impacted by the tornado outbreak which occurred on May 27, 2019, the evening of Memorial Day which is well-known for the Violent EF-4 Dayton, Ohio Tornado.

Although all of the Dayton broadcast stations no longer use their in-house radar systems on-air (both still sit atop the hill in Southwest Dayton), WHIO-TV has invested in Baron Lynx and Super Resolution NWS radar data. NWS radar systems universally support SAILS and AVSET, with lowest-level scans now updating generally every one minute, therefore the need for station owned in-house radar systems is reduced -- that is unless one would want a brand new high power S-Band with a narrow beam angle width just to show off.
