Tar River Shad Fishing - Old Sparta in Eastern North Carolina (Tarboro - 2023)
Shad fishing is a early spring tradition in North Carolina. The Tar River, the Roanoake River, and the Neuse River are some of the more popular places to catch shad in Eastern North Carolina. In this video, Brian and Jim put in at Old Sparta on the Tar River just south of Tarboro, NC. Baits of choice were chartreuse curly tail grubs and Jack Slaps by Catch Outdoors. Shad were found in laydowns and running about 8-10 feet from the bank as we were drifting along. Definitely will be making another trip to go after some more of these fun to catch fish!

Get Out Fishing was born out of a long time friendship. Jim and Brian grew up fishing in Tennessee and moved to North Carolina in 1996. North Carolina is a fisherman’s paradise. From central North Carolina where we live, we have access to all kinds of fishing. Saltwater fishing can be done along the coast, and freshwater fishing can be done in various lakes and rivers around the state along with trout fishing in the mountain streams of Western North Carolina. No matter what type of fishing we are doing, we are continually learning and we love to share what we learn about fishing with others. For us, fishing is about community and that is what we hope to create with Get Out Fishing. A community of people who love all types of fishing and who love sharing their passion for fishing with others.
