Perseid Highlights August 10 11, 2024 (Brighter for phones)
Between midnight and daybreak I recorded a lot of Perseid Meteors in real time (not time exposure images) showing how meteors look streaking across the sky. This video highlights the big ones that also left ionized trails in the ionosphere, reflecting radio signals that normally go out into space.
The ionosphere rings like a bell after these stronger meteors burn through the upper atmosphere. Sometimes these reflections can last minutes. These transmissions are from TV stations that are hundreds of miles away.
Sometimes the meteors cause reflections from multiple transmitters. These transmitters are tuned slightly off frequency from one another and cause multiple vertical streaks on the waterfall display located in the bottom right-hand corner of the video.
