Sapulpa, OK, 1991, Route 66 drive.
Video recorded back on September 25, 1991, driving south from Tulsa into Sapulpa in a 1988 Mercury Cougar. Note two places that are long gone since this tape was recorded. The first is Majors gas station seen at 2:30 (how 'bout the price of gas back then!) and the second is Norma's Diamond Café at about 2:40. The café was an iconic Route 66 eatery in Sapulpa that closed after the passing of Norma Lee Hall on November 23, 2000. It's interesting to note that according to the book "Route 66" by Michael Wallis, Norma's Diamond Café used Frankoma ceramic dishware to serve meals to its customers. Frankoma Pottery was also located In Sapulpa about a mile from the café and not only produced cups, saucers and plates, but many theme related ceramic figures and novelties.
