Fun With Compiz On Gnome Flashback On Debian 13 Trixie.
In this video I try out Compiz on Gnome Flashback which I have on Debian 13. Compiz is an X11 window manager and compositor that runs on top of other desktop environments. That gives you extra features and theme options. Such as transparent windows, desktop cube, and many other features. Compiz comes installed on Linux Mint on both the Xfce and Mate desktops. Fedora also have a Mate with Compiz Spin. It also used to come installed on older versions of Ubuntu that had the Gnome 2 desktop.
Compiz also works on Gnome Flashback, LXDE and LXQT desktops. As well as on Mate and Xfce. It does NOT work on Main Gnome, Budgie, Cinnamon, and KDE. So don't try to run it on those desktops because it won't run. It will crash the desktop. You have been warned! The other desktops are fine and can run Compiz.
To install Compiz you also need to install the Metacity window manager and Mate Settings Daemon which is also needed to use the Marco window manager. That also gets installed along with the rest of the Compiz plugins. Compiz Fusion enables you to switch between the different window managers and also the settings.
