These are some extra things you can add to your EOS M to push your cinema camera setup just a little further. And they’re all just as affordable as the camera itself!
I just bought the barebones stuff: Sandisk Extreme 32GB memory card, an extra battery, and a Camvate camera cage and Smallrig handle.
There are plenty of other ways to rig the Canon EOS M, but these will help you get started. Altogether, this entire setup will cost you under $400—roughly equivalent to a used DSLR or mirrorless camera.
In terms of the battery, I found that the regular Canon LP E-12 costs close to $60 brand new which, in my opinion, kind of sucks...especially if you’re on a tight budget. Thankfully, I found a cheaper brand on Amazon—DOT 01 (non-affiliate links below).
The thing to keep in mind about third party batteries is that they’re always going to boast a higher mAh and in this case, the DOT 01 claims to have 2200mAh. You would think this makes it last longer than the original Canon battery, but it actually lasts about the same time. I used it for up to 3 hours while filming which worked out pretty great.
But the DOT 01 battery charges just fine with the Canon charger, so luckily you don’t have to buy another one! And it comes with a 5-year warranty.
Nonetheless, there are all kinds of different accessories to add to this tiny camera and if I find anymore, I’ll definitely let you all know. Otherwise, tell me what other accessories you picked up for you EOS M!
