Have you heard of the Taijiquan move "Golden Rooster Stands On One Leg"? In Chinese: 金鸡独立 (jin ji du li). Well, besides being an awesome proprioception and isometric exercise, this move might actually be a functional move. Let's watch and see how the entire function and form changes if you add a staff or sword. I am NOT a Tai Chi practitioner, but I've seen this move throughout my life in different kungfu circumstances. Today was the first time I saw it demonstrated with a staff, and it inspired me to look at the move from a completely different lens. My purpose of this video is purely exploratory based on my love for martial arts. Tai Chi, Kungfu people please give me your thoughts! If all these forms are catalogues of moves, then we have to figure out their functions.
