CONQUERING an old, DANGEROUS Cottonwood in Lake Forest Park with ONE CUT
Seattle Arborist Episode 7: Follow along as Peter, Ryleigh, Kyle and Keaton take on killing a large cottonwood tree located in Lake Forest Park Wa. The tree received a tree removal permit through the city of Lake Forest Park after half of the tree recently fell across the four busy lanes of SR-522, blocking traffic, during a windy night.
Using different techniques, Peter brings down 106 feet of wood piece by piece with the help of his ground crew in under 3 hours. One of those techniques is known as the "one-cut". The one-cut is made by cutting an angled cut through the width of the trunk wood. Gravity then causes the heavy trunk section to slide right off without any assistance. Once all the wood is on the ground it gets picked up and hauled away. In this case a Ditch Witch was employed because of the distance from where the tree stood to where the truck that would haul it away was parked.
