Nungwi: The Best and The Worst - Zanzibar Island
Well, that probably will be the most controversial video by now.
I mean I love Zanzibar, really. The island is amazing, and the people in their majority are awesome as well. The experiences are awesome… And here comes BUT!
In the video, you will see the highlights of the trip to the North of the island - the village of Nungwi. The tour includes visiting the village, a boat trip to an island, snorkeling, dolphin watching, some beach time and lunch; and as their top experience - swimming/feeding/interacting with the turtles.
And although I cannot lie, I really did enjoy the experience, the food was simple but delicious… When I came home and posted my first happy video to Instagram, it was brought to my attention that the experience with the turtles was not ethical at all. It was very interesting to feed the sea turtles and spend some time with them, it really was. At first glance, they look well cared for and healthy. However, the water was not very clean and the turtles seemed hungry, and were biting. They say it is a sign of underfeeding… I have my doubts that they actually serve as a rehabilitation site... This felt a lot like a tourist trap. What do you think? Let me know in the comment section.
