In this video, I’m coming to you from an old hotel in Greensboro, NC, the Biltmore at Greensboro, while I'm on a road gig with the Drifters ("Under The Boardwalk", "Magic Moment") and The Coasters ("Charlie Brown", "Yakety Yak").
I'll be sharing one of my favorite drumming warm-up exercises: Paradiddle Diddles mixed with Double Paradiddles. This exercise is great for developing fluidity and confidence in shifting between different sticking patterns on both the right and left sides. I break down how to practice these triplet-based rhythms and explain why mastering these rudiments is essential for any drummer.
Also, I answer a fantastic question from a parent of one of my students about underutilized revenue sources for musicians. We dive deep into the music business, discussing everything from bar gigs to the benefits of owning a home studio. I also share why it’s important to value your time, energy, and experiences when deciding which gigs or opportunities to take on.
Make sure to watch till the end for insights on balancing your passion with making smart business decisions as a working musician.
