HEY MAN! Ep.6: A Drummer and A Guitarist Walk Into A...
Today, I welcome my first guest and one of my closest friends, Rick Hinkle, to the "Hey Man!" show. Having been a professional session player since the early 70's, Rick is one of the most recorded guitarists in Atlanta, having played on albums by Paul Davis, Kevn Kinney, Sandra Hall, Vassar Clements, Howard Tate, AirRaid (engineered & producer by the legendary Eddie Kramer), and more artists than I can list here. He's also the guitarist on the iconic 80's classic from Buckner & Garcia: "PacMan Fever".
He's even played on several albums that I've worked on including Mark Kovaly's single "Everyday". I also played some percussion and mixed & mastered Rick's only solo album "Song And Dance Man", released in 2023, which can be found on all of the streaming services.
As you'll hear about in this conversation, Rick Richards (founding member of The Georgia Satellites) recently said to me, "Rick Hinkle is the best guitar player in Atlanta!"
In this episode, Rick Hinkle shares his valuable insights and tips on guitar maintenance, including the importance of regularly changing guitar strings, choosing the right gauge, and maintaining a balanced sound. Rick also discusses different techniques and nuances for achieving the best sound quality during performance and recording.
The conversation takes place in Rick Hinkle's living room where Rick strings his beloved vintage 1961 Fender Stratocaster, diving deep into his personal preferences and string choices. The episode wraps up with a humorous note, providing both practical advice and entertainment for guitar enthusiasts and music lovers.
