Col. Bourgeois served as the director of the Marine Band between 1979 and 1996, spanning nine presidential administrations, from Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower to William Jefferson Clinton. Under his leadership the band began traveling abroad, including an 18-day concert tour of the former Soviet Union in 1990. In his interview, Bourgeois talks about the many ways he shaped the culture of the Marine band. He was elected to the American Bandmasters Association in 1981, became an Honorary Lifetime Member in 2014, and Honorary Life President in 2017.
The interview was recorded in March 2020 at the ABA Conference.
