Also called a Holter monitor, this is a non-invasive technical method that involves monitoring blood pressure on an outpatient basis over a 24-hour period.

For this purpose, a cuff containing a sensor that detects arterial pulses is attached to one of the patient's arms. This sensor is connected to a programmed recording device that inflates the cuff and takes the blood pressure reading every 15 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes at night.

The data recorded by this outpatient test, after the device is removed from the patient, is analyzed by a specialist and interpreted to determine the patient's condition and the next steps. This study is particularly useful for clarifying uncertain diagnoses of hypertension, as well as providing information on possible cardiovascular complications in individuals with a confirmed diagnosis of high blood pressure. It is also useful for evaluating the effectiveness of blood pressure control achieved with medication. To perform this test, the patient must consult with a specialist beforehand to find out what considerations they should take into account, such as discontinuing any medication they are currently using, and what precautions should be taken when using the device.
