Cuprum Treatments Success
Prescribed burning saves the town of Cuprum, Idaho from being consumed by the Limepoint Fire.
The Limepoint Fire started on July 24, 2024, due to lightning strikes in the tall grass, brush, and timber near Cuprum, Idaho. The fire quickly spread, threatening the communities of Cuprum, Bear, Calf Pen, and Wildhorse. Idaho Power transmission lines were also at risk.
To protect these communities and critical infrastructure, the Forest Service implemented a prescribed burning strategy. By carefully managing controlled burns in strategic areas, they were able to reduce the available fuel and create firebreaks, which ultimately helped to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further into Cuprum.
Thanks to these efforts, the town of Cuprum was saved from being consumed by the Limepoint Fire, and the fire was eventually contained with minimal damage to the infrastructure.
