You should watch this if you’re looking to bring some excitement into your story development, and discover methods that may cut your development timeline from months, down to weeks, or even days. It makes writing way more fun, that’s for sure.
After a few years of deployments and moving around the country to find my favorite film city to live in, I felt extremely behind in beginning my filmmaking career, which lead me to obsessively consuming books on screenwriting. But, a few years, and seven books later, I realized I would never feel ready. I was stalling and needed to get to work. So, to help make that happen, and to help my writing, I made something.
I thought it would be wrong for me to share this since I have no real screenwriting credentials. But, I realized there might be others out there who also feel behind and want to do whatever they can to work efficiently and feel like they have a shot at catching up.
So, I made a commitment: no more reading books on screenwriting. But, I didn’t want to just forget the knowledge I’d just spent the last few years accumulating, and there was no way I’d just remember everything from every book I’d read.
I wanted those resources easily accessible, like a story building toolbox. I also early on learned the notecards method of building your story, and being more of a visual learner, I liked it. So, I knew I wanted to have the resources from the books nearby, to use the notecard method, and to somehow see the entire playing field to do my work.
And That’s why I created this story building method in Trello.
I simply combined the old notecard method, with guidance from screenwriting books, with all of the capabilities of Trello. This allows me to design my screenplay in more creative and manageable chunks, and with less risk of spending too much time rewriting or throwing away work.
