Photovoltaic Systems Lecture 1 | PV material and its properties
Photovoltaics power systems are covered in this lecture series. In this first lecture, the bandgap energy concept is explained with special reference to the silicon based solar cell. It is shown that the maximum theoretical efficiency of a si solar cell cannot exceed 50 %. Further to this, it is demonstrated that the practical efficiency of Si solar cell is limited to 25% which calls for investigation of new materials for solar cell manufacturing.
