I've always had a bit of an awkward name.
There are about seven different ways to spell "McCrae", and most people usually pick one of the other options (even when it's literally right there for them in an email address, sigh).
Then folks like to have fun with my first name too, deciding they'd like to change it to "Dave" when I've clearly introduced myself as "David".
You've maybe got a name that folks often spell or pronounce wrong too. Or perhaps someone kept on calling you by the wrong name at a social occasion
It's annoying right? And it takes the joy out of introducing yourself to people.
But then there's that odd occasion when sometime gets your name spot on first time, and you have to write the date down in your diary as a significant milestone along with your anniversary and birth of your children.
That's because our name is like a spell that works only on us.
And understanding the value of someone's name is a powerful way that we can connect with people as speakers.
