A hook is a sentence or group of sentences that will capture or “hook” your reader’s interest and lure him or her to keep reading.

The hook, also called the lead, will set the tone and mood for your essay and establish A hook can be a single sentence or even a few paragraphs.

Depending on the type of writing. narrative, expository, persuasive or argumentative, you’ll use a specific hook.

Narrative writing is also called creative writing or fictional story. There are many types of narrative writing but they all share common characteristics of characters, setting, plot, and conflict.

Expository Writing investigate an idea, evaluate evidence, expound on the idea, and set forth an argument concerning that idea in a clear and concise manner.as its name implies, is writing that exposes facts. In other words, it's writing that explains and educates its readers, it seeks to explain, expose. Presents readers with important facts and information about a topic.

Persuasive Writing any written communication with the intention to convince or influence readers to believe in an idea or opinion and to do an action. Persuasive writing uses evidence-based logic, emotional language and ethical appeals to illustrate an opinion or point of view.
