Music Connects: The Real School of Rock is the story of young people coming of age in a region still marked by the Yugoslav wars, using the power of rock music to bridge ethnic divides.
-
Music Connects follows the teenage students of Mitrovica Rock School, a project of Musicians Without Borders in the ethnically divided town of Mitrovica, in Kosovo. The Rock School is one of the few places in town where youth can meet people from the other community. Over time, they get to know each other and form bands.
Now these ethnically mixed bands, who don’t share a language and must communicate in English, will travel abroad to North Macedonia. Here, they meet youth from two other rock schools who are on the same journey: to bridge the ethnic divides that mar the region.
This documentary follows the young musicians as they look past their differences and connect with each other - through rock music.
