Ah, gravel racing, it’s been taking the cycling world by storm for the past five years, and sometimes we feel like the last holdouts in a swirling sea of skinsuits and dropbars.
It’s been three years since we did our one and only previous gravel race, high time to give it another go, and see how the sport has evolved. While we are not known for our love of gravel roads, we do love our gravel bikes, and we do love big adventure rides, so maybe we can learn to love this type of racing too.
Today we’re heading to Vermejo Ranch near Raton, New Mexico for the Vermejo Charcoal Burner, a race that promises 99 miles of great views, wildlife, rugged roads and, best of all, only a quarter mile of pavement. If we’re going to gravel, this is the way to do it.
