Java Install on Linux | Install | Uninstall | Version change
Java is a high-level, general-purpose, memory-safe, object-oriented programming language. It is intended to let programmers write once, run anywhere, meaning that compiled Java code can run on all platforms that support Java without the need to recompile.
1️⃣ Go to terminal and
java -version
2️⃣ To install java 1st time use any of one one-line command for installation
sudo apt install default-jre # version 2:1.17-75, or
sudo apt install openjdk-17-jre-headless # version 17.0.14+7-1~24.04
sudo apt install openjdk-21-jre-headless # version 21.0.6+7-1~24.04.1
sudo apt install openjdk-19-jre-headless # version 19.0.2+7-4
sudo apt install openjdk-20-jre-headless # version 20.0.2+9-1
sudo apt install openjdk-22-jre-headless # version 22~22ea-1
sudo apt install openjdk-11-jre-headless # version 11.0.26+4-1ubuntu1~24.04
sudo apt install openjdk-8-jre-headless # version 8u442-b06~us1-0ubuntu1~24.04
3️⃣ Check java installation by
java -version
sudo dpkg --list
4️⃣ Check java installation directory/folder
readlink -f $(which java)
5️⃣ Install latest version of java
search on internet java latest version
https://www.oracle.com/in/java/techno...
jdk-24_linux-x64_bin.deb
sudo apt install ./jdk-24_linux-x64_bin.deb
6️⃣ Uninstall java
sudo apt-get purge java-common
sudo dpkg --list
