Because the manufacturing of metal tins is so machine intensive, they tend to be produced at factories that specialize in this process. As you watch the video here (and enjoy the relaxing music…), notice the number of machines that are die cutting and stamping the tins into their final shapes. This is after the flat sheets of tin are printed (with a printing press that can accommodate printing on metal). This factory is particularly automated, as the tin bases and lids are passed from one machine to another on conveyor belts. Most tin factories will employ a worker for every machine in operation. It’s only after the lids and bases of the tins are fully completed that the more labor-oriented processes kick in, attaching the clasps and hinges, and then cleaning, quality control checks, and final packing.
