PS5 UI Reveal: OS User Interface Analysis
The PS5 UI has some problems. It's also trying to do some cool stuff too.
Sony gave us a small glimpse at the new user interface (UI) for the Playstation 5 just prior to its release. This was an opportunity to see some of the new features and the vision Sony have laid out for the PS5’s user experience (UX). Although they only showed us a handful of features and talked very briefly about others, this first look gives us a good idea of the direction they’re going.
For the most part, I like the innovation in what they showed. From a features point of view, it’s doing a lot of things we’ve not seen before on any platform and this is exciting. On the other hand, the UI that sits on top of these features hasn’t really evolved since the PS4 and there are a number elements I think need improving for this to be a truly ‘next-gen’ interface.
