Are you staring at a blank wall in the face like ‘what am I going to do with you?’ Nothing tells a better story of collection and color than a gallery wall. We joke at the end that it ‘only took a day’ because ha! IRL it took a wee more time than our video would allow, so we cut all the boring bits for you guys and here it is! What took the most time was just thinking about what we wanted to convey with this wall. Do we want a lot of color? Do we want just abstract pieces? Do we want some kind of theme? Do we want to make something new? In the end, we decided to go for cohesion in ‘quiet’ tonality because there was already so much color going on in other pieces in the room as well as a strong wall color. The tonal quality of this collection is kind of a tea stained wheat with touches of black and pops of rust and cinnamon. We limited ourselves to what we already had in the house and most of these things have an aged quality, so the one thing we bought was the printable abstract piece we found on Etsy for contrast (love it!). In the end, we dig this collection and there’s still room to grow. We can add more to the top of the gallery and the sides, but we will wait for those perfect pieces that will hop along our journey in time. Creating cohesive collections and nailing down a color palette for your space informs future purchases and what you might look for on the fly at flea markets and vintage shops. It helps to prevent regretful buying decisions because you’ve got a foundation to work with that keeps you in check. Go for it with your gallery wall and hit us with any q’s!
