Touch-screen overview – Hyundai IONIQ 5 ‘Project 45’ (2022)

In this video you will see an overview of the different functions and screens of the large touch-sensitive multi-information display in the Hyundai IONIQ 5.

'The IONIQ 5 from Hyundai is a car that looks as futuristic as much as it looks retro. The car has certain retro elements that refer to a previous model, the Pony, to be precise.

Its pixel-lights on the other hand make it look very futuristic and modern. It definitely turns some heads on the road especially in this ‘Project 45’ configuration with big wheels and its matte gold-yellow paint finish.

The IONIQ 5 is an SUV and has ample space on the inside. The seats are very comfortable and are adjustable in just about every way. There is even a possibility to adjust the front seats to a fully-flat mode so that you can rest or sleep in them, very relaxing indeed.

Thanks to its battery-electric layout the center console, the part where your arm rests can be slided fully backwards making it easy to get into the driver’s seat from the passenger’s seat, for example when someone parks too close to your car.

The IONIQ 5 has a gear selector located behind the steering wheel which is very easy to use and ergonomically located. With 2 large screens in front of you, you get all the information that you’ll ever need. One is a touchscreen and the other is operated via buttons on the steering wheel and levers. It’s nice to see that the car automatically calculates the range of the car when using for example the AC or other components, that’s pretty smart.
It also shows you the power distribution and energy recuperation of each individual wheel since this version is a four-wheel-drive.

Hyundai does let you customize the amount of recuperating energy via paddles behind the steering wheel in different settings: Level 1 / Level 2 / Level 3 / Auto / Max and i-PEDAL refer to the amount of ‘engine’ braking the car is set to. In the i-PEDAL setting the car maximizes the brake force and thereby charges the battery pack more quickly. In this setting the power pedal also acts as a brake pedal when you release your foot off the pedal. It takes some getting used to and people driving behind you will approach you more quickly so it’s important to anticipate that when driving around in this mode.

Performance-wise it’s up there with the best. With 73 kWh it generates 306 hp and a whopping 605 Nm of torque ensuring a blistering acceleration from a standstill and pushing you back into your seat with great force. Top speed is limited to 185 km/h which is quick enough. With all this power and capability you won’t notice that this car weighs a quite enormous 2.000 kilos. Where you do feel all that weight is in the corners where the suspension sometimes struggles to keep the car flat and composed. Hyundai announced that later this year there will be an update of the suspension that will deal with this ‘issue’.

On a normal tempo the car drives with utter comfort it really is very good in ironing out most of the roads bumps and lumps and other imperfections.

Driving with a relaxed driving style a range of easily more than 400 kilometers should be possible which is considerable and the car can charge up pretty fast which is nice too.

Augmented Reality helps you even more in navigating around with all kinds of visual aids that are projected onto the windscreen in front of the driver.

All in all this is a very attractive electric car from Hyundai that ups the whole electric car game. So let’s see how it fares in this video!'
