A Request to My Fellow News Anchors on Arab Satellite Channels
The Arab public found itself drowning in a deluge of breaking news bombarding them day and night, whether on television screens, news websites, or social media. This was especially true given that these news items appeared in a red ticker, warning the reader or viewer that something serious had occurred. This phenomenon worsened after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and reached its peak during the Russian war on Ukraine, to the point where the word "urgent" lost its meaning.
I've seen posts on social media from people complaining about being constantly bombarded with the word "urgent," asserting that it has led them to stop following the news altogether, especially with news channels creating Twitter accounts dedicated to broadcasting breaking news. This reluctance will create an additional problem, as truly important breaking news will be lost in the flood of published news. So, what are the most prominent aspects of this problem and its causes, and how can the broadcasting of breaking news be managed more effectively?
