Herping in Arizona...Alone?
Don't read below unless you want the spoiler...
Do you herp alone? Do you like herping alone? Sure, sometimes it's nice to just do the solo thing here and there, but I believe that herping with fellow herpers and friends is the way to go. It is always so much fun sharing adventures and finds with other people.
When I first started out with this thing called herping, I always went out by myself. Sometimes it was fun, sometimes it was scary, but it eventually got old.
Early on, I joined a herpetology field survey with tons of other herpers. It was so much fun to be with everyone and I sure did learn alot as well.
I've had to do alot of research on my own (which is totally necessary if you want to become a better herper); I've spent countless hours studying and reading about different herps on where and how to find them. I would occasionally ask questions to other herpers and sometimes I would get responses back and sometimes I wouldn't. But herpers like LouB747 and smetlogik were always more than happy to help me and encourage me along my young herping journey. Heck. I remember when I first started out, I was using a stick as a snake-hook, thinking I was Steve Irwin or something LOL. And Rob (smetlogik) did a contest video. I entered it and ended up winning an official snake hook as a prize. That only encouraged me even more to be a better herper and meant so much to me. That's why when I had the chance to meet up with Rob in Az, I couldn't pass that up. To actually hang out with Rob and herp with the guy that makes (IMO) the best herping YouTube videos, was an opportunity I couldn't pass up!
