You're disappointed by your employee's poor performance, but it's hard to pull them aside and tell them that.
It's Friday and it has been a good day. You don't want to ruin the weekend. You know they have kids at home taking a lot of their energy, and you know they're working hard.
Anything you can think of to say is just going to upset them and make the situation worse.
Is there any way to give feedback and stay friends?
You struggle to give feedback because you struggle sticking to the facts.
Instead of sticking to facts and sticking to the behaviors and the actions people are committing, we focus on what we believe about them, what kind of people they are as opposed to what is happening in actual fact.
You want to be liked, but keeping people happy is not your job.
Your job is to help them grow and empower them to use their strengths and talents for their own benefit and the company's incidentally.
Help them be successful in their work by giving actionable feedback about their behaviors, work, and words. You will be respected even if a person takes your feedback badly.
