By adding transcriptions or closed captions to your meetings you can make them more accessible.
At the bottom of the ZOOM tool bar you may have noticed, “Live Transcript”. When you click on that button you’re given four options. You can enable auto- transcription where the software will do its best to transcribe when you’re saying. You can use a third party closed captioning service, you can assign for a participant to type or you can say that you’ll type.
I tested the auto transcription and it started great, however when I said “pretty sweet” it thought I said “purchase weeks”. It does make me wonder how many more words or phrases it would mess up in a whole presentation.
If I was planning on using this tool, which I really think I may, I would consider using a 3rd party service that has more expertise and skills or an assigned participant with good spelling skills! If you want to make an adjustment to the size of the captions you can click on the upward arrow next to “live transcripts” and then “subtitle settings” and scroll to the size you want the text to be. I hope this tip helps you be more accessible in your virtual meetings.
