Description:
Sometime in 2016, a sale occurred of old Climax Group assets for various released and unreleased projects. The lot contained prototype builds, source code, and art assets of many projects that were done at Climax up to 2010. Most of the items available for sale were initially sold through a company hired to clean out a former office for Climax, some of which has since been resold to various collectors. An estimated 2000 to 3000 discs were recovered, along with data tapes and development hardware from throughout the company's history. However, the tape you're seeing in this video was found on the developer disks for the game "Spongebob Squarepants: Supersponge". The footage contains gameplay of an very unknown build of the game that was not part of the Climax lot. This build contains a lot of differences due to the fact there's an level no one has ever heard of. The level consists of an hallway and if you'd walk for a few seconds through it, an Squidward head with no pupils would fade out of an portal and its dialogue would say: "Hey SpongeBob! You want fun? I'll show you true fun!". As soon as he would have said that, the hallway would get dark except for the Squidward head, which would've been brighter than anything else (Besides the health bar seen in early builds.) The player had to run away from the Squidward head (even though the hallway at this point would've turned endless meaning there would be no chance for you to escape the floating head) as its main objective was to chase the player and if he catches you, you would get an error screen, saying that the level was not meant to be accessed by the general public. There are also a lot of strange supersponge errors that never made it into the final game where there would include an text to speech robot telling you to restart the game system, and another creepy error, where after the Squidward head catches you and the "not meant to be accessed by the public" error showed up for an second, the screen would be complete black for a few seconds before the error showed up, warning you to not tell the events that happened through the game to anyone you'd know, or else there would be consequences. It's unknown who the person who was playing this build was, why the developers even thought of this on the 1st place and why the video had better quality compared to the other "Bug Report" tapes and this video had an different format (MP4) compared to the others (AVI). Any and every of the sprites used for the errors and levels for this build were not included into the Climax lot. Probably because they wanted to pretend this didn't exist, but seems like they had forgotten this video was on the developer disks for the game. Not to mention that if you'd stay as close as possible to the end of the first level, you could faintly see an portal (like the one used in the level) fading on, which would've likely be used to send you to this level but it just crashes the game and before the screen turns black, before showing the first error screen, there would be an hidden message saying "YOU THINK YOU'RE SAFE?" and as shown on this tape, after the first error screen cuts to black an message would pop up, once again asking if you were "thinking you were safe", before distorting into static and cutting to black once again. The level shown in the build was named "level_unknown". Another hidden message was asking the player if "he wanted fun", kinda like the dialogue for the squidward head. In total, there were only 2 hidden messages on the build. the other "thinking you were safe" after the error screen might not be considered an hidden message at all, considering the fact this message lasted for a few seconds and the player still had a lot of time to read what was the message saying before it all started to distort. Supersponge was likely meant to be more darker than what it is today, somehow. Every copy of Spongebob Squarepants: Supersponge is personalized. Do not research. Do not become his lunch.
