Rügen Binz in the German island 4K
The oldest document that mentions the town is from 1318, then spelling Byntze. In the 1870s, Binz developed into a tourist destination and about 10 years later the resort was given the official name of the resort. During this time, several overnight places were built, the resort's first health center, the road network, the bridge and the connection to the railway. The bridge was destroyed in 1905 during a storm but was restored in 1908. Already in 1912 an accident occurred again on the bridge when parts of the construction collapsed and 17 people lost their lives. This event was the reason for the establishment of the German Rescue Society (DLRG). The third accident visited the bridge in 1942 and only in 1994 a new bridge was built.
After World War II, several hotels and boarding houses became emergency housing for refugees. After 1950, Binz became the main resort for the mining company Wismut, which mainly operated in the Erzgebirge. In 1953, a campaign was started on Rügen to expropriate the island's hotel and boarding houses, which also affected the residents of Binz. Several prefabricated houses were built in the northern part of the town, which partly gave the town a different feel. After Germany's reunification, several people got their houses back
