Will The Future Be Vegan?
According to Bill Nye, it might be.

Humans are not logical and I prove it to you.
How do you wipe your ass?
I'm serious, are you using wet paper or the dry stuff.
You wouldn't clean your floor with a dry paper, no, you're always using a wet cloth.
Yet for the part of your body that needs the most efficient cleaning, dry paper seems to be just enough.
This is not logical, but this is how humans are conditioned.
Humans are a creature of habit and culture.

There's an effect called the Lindy effect.
Things that have existed until this day, will likely exist again for the same time, starting now.
The Lindy effect stresses the idea, that we currently are in the middle of what has existed until now and will exist in the future.
Eating meat has been consistent for millions of years, according to the Lindy effect, it is very likely that it will still consist for that amount of time again.
Because people are not logical.

But, everything has to come to an end.
So will the future be vegan?

According to Bill Nye, the science guy, it will be.
And I think so too.
But for different reasons, than you might imagine.
The best way would be if the whole mankind would get an epiphany and start changing into a more empathetic way.
This would propel our species quantum leaps forward.

Yet I think the more common reason would be, because eating meat is not energy efficient.
Plus meat substitutes will get better and better over time.
It will reach a point where you can't taste what is vegan, and what is truly animal tissue.

This is the point where vegan meat substitutes will have an advantage.
Vegan meat substitutes are cheaper to produce, because they need less water, space and plants for production.
Animals need food, shelter, hormones and antibiotics.

Antibiotics in animal farming practices create resistant bacterias that may be detrimental for the human species.
But again, this death threat will not lead us to change, because people are not logical.

The more likely reason why the vegan nutrition will take over, is because vegan meat substitutes will be cheaper to produce.
And this is attractive from a capitalistic and competitive standpoint.

What few people know is that animal products are way more expensive than they actually are.
There are hidden costs that you need to pay while consuming animal products.

Same things with chewing gums, a chewing gum might be one dollar.
But to clean the city from chewing gums that are glued to the ground costs a city hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.
Chewing gums are way more expensive than they actually are.

But the taxpayer pays for it, these are the hidden costs.
Animal products lead to diseases, which the taxpayer pays for.
They also lead to problems with the environment, partly but not entirely because farm animals produce such a gigantic amount of crap,
that the crap could fit the entire area of San Francisco, Tokyo, New York, Paris, Berlin, New Delhi, Hong Kong, London, Rio de Janeiro, Delaware, Bali, Costa Rica and Denmark. Together.
And this crap is produced every second, in the US only.
The taxpayer pays for cleaning that crap and I'm pretty sure that that crap gets cleaned with a wet paper.

Yet the government is depended on the tax-paying farmers, there are over 2 million farms in the US.
If the government would not subsidize the animal farms it would put millions of people out of a job.
This is not the best strategy to keep the country competitive in a global market.

But this number of workers in farms will be dropping.
If you're watching this you have to realize that the tech revolution will come, soon robots will take over most of our current jobs, this will happen in the next 100 years I suppose.
Autonomous cars have a smaller risk of accidents than humans even today.
If the government is less dependent on people working in agriculture, because of the use of robots, there will be less need for subsidizing and support.

If you're waiting for people to have a sudden epiphany to become vegan, it will likely not happen.
Humans are a creature of culture and habit.
We are not logical, we use dry paper on the toilet.
But.
Meat won't be able to stay as artificially cheap as it is today.
This will soon force the consumer to buy healthier alternatives with the exact same taste, such as meat substitutes.
The future will be vegan and robotic, I guess.

Thank you for your time and thank you for your trust. I hope you have a great day. :-)
