Wire Race - Automation Engineers with Bad Tool Equalizer
Keyboard-jockey automation engineers turned my tool review video into a “Terminal Block Wiring Race”. Marie is a GMP S88 Batch master and Haruka deals in historical reports. A surprise finish as we used tool-quality to handicap the race.
I think we found new appreciation for electricians skilled in control wiring terminations.
Originally, was set up to review a new Wiha Tools USA 28393 Insulated Slim Line screwdriver I purchased to replace my every day carry (EDC) Wiha 77790 set. I’ve had the 77790 for years and I love it. But still need to pair it with a small terminal screwdriver. The 28393 seemed to solve that and add a bit of arc-flash protection.
But as we had all my screwdrivers out, was just messing around. Added in a couple types of wire strippers to show why we need good tools for efficiency.
Some bets were made. Odds given based on using objectively bad tools. I got a real POS stripper that came free with a cheap, cheap crimp terminal set. The screw driver I absolutely loathe for industrial use, the Wiha 32085.
The 32085 is a nice screwdriver, the handle is just too small and not enough mechanical advantage to properly torque a terminal block. So gives a false sense that it’s tightened correctly (foreshadowing).
Moral of the story, buy good tools and learn how to use them. Buy once, cry once…
