Subaru XV Crosstrek fans can skip this review. Thank you. We're leaving. You'll be buying this car with maniacal devotion anyway.
The new model is essentially a thorough redesign of the previous XV. It shares the same engine and transmission options. It also boasts all-wheel drive and interiors tailored to young tourists who need to venture a little further into the pampas than they can in front-wheel-drive city crossovers. It's not yet an SUV, but it's no longer a passenger car.
The car's performance is more than composed, even with two liters of fuel under the hood. Even in Sport mode. Even if you push the transmission. There will be no sudden starts or acceleration.
But fuel consumption is quite respectable. Consumption of less than 10 liters per hundred kilometers in city driving is nothing more than a pipe dream. Harsh reality will require more gasoline and, consequently, more expenses.
The bottom line is that we get a safe, balanced car with symmetrical all-wheel drive (which can be deactivated), a comfortable interior, and fuel economy that's not quite the same as a passenger car, but certainly not quite the same as off-roading.
The enthusiasts will buy it anyway, but I advise newcomers to consider how much off-road capability the new Subaru offers you.
