Gears Maiden is one of Akihito Tsukushi's earliest manga. While it appears discontinued just after two chapters, it's art and exposition are truly incredible. Akihito's inspiration behind this piece simply being he wanted an excuse to draw mechas and as he was doodling, this concept came to mind. There is no official confirmation for whether this series will be continued or not, but I wanted to pay homage to this incredible creator with this short animated opening.
Gears Maiden tells the story of a horned girl named Jima who has no memories of her origin. Wandering into the woods she encounters a large sentient machine. Its appearance coated in various saws. In books this being was known as "The Saw Monster", and yet it's presence is anything but monstrous. Suddenly Jima's village is attacked by ogres, together with the Saw Monster, they fend off its intruders to save the people of her homeland.
