Thorness Bay Protected Wreck
The wreck in Thorness Bay was first brought to the attention of archaeologists in 2011 by Dave Wendes who operates Wight Spirit. It was identified as the remains of a mid to late 19th century sailing ship and lies in about 21m of water.
In 2013 the site was listed with Historic England and is now protected under the Protection of Wrecks Act 1973. Diving may only occur with the consent of the licence holders.
