How to Select #Sample from #Frame
There are 2 ways of sampling from population
1. Non Random Sampling
2. Random Sampling
1. NONRANDOM SAMPLING
Sampling in which population units are drawn from someone’s personal judgment. Usually used for purposes. It has sub category Quota sampling too.
1.1. QUOTA SAMPLING
In this choice of actual sample unit is left to choice of interviewer. The interviewer us restricted by quota controls.
For example interviewer is told to interview only married people.
ADVANTAGES OF QUOTA SAMPLING
No frame required.
Quick.
Cheap.
DISADVANTAGES OF QUOTA SAMPLING
It is long and descriptive method. Sampling error cannot be calculated in non-random sampling.
As the personal judgment of interviewer is involved hence precision and reliability can be compromised.
Bias can arise due to interviewer.
Personal mistake by interviewer.
Interviewer must set qualifying criteria for the quota selection
2. RANDOM SAMPLING
In this method, selection of the sample units has been carried out in a random manner i.e. Lottery.
TYPES OF RANDOM SAMPLING
Simple Random Sampling
Stratified Random Sampling
Systematic Sampling
Cluster Sampling
Multi-stage Sampling
etc.
Here we will discuss simple random sampling
2.1 SIMPLE RANDOM SAMPLING
In this sampling all element of population has same possibility of other. There are many errors in random sampling as the interviewer may interview only young attractive girls. This is intentional bias and no training and physiological therapy can eradicate that.
Nowadays randomness can be achieved electronically.
