I was originally checking out James Taylor’s version of this with Leland Sklar on bass since I’ve been on a big Leland Sklar kick recently. But sometimes it’s nice to go back to the source. So this is the original version off of Bobby Womack’s 1972 album’s "Understanding" with Mike Leech on bass. Extremely laid back and full-toned, absolutely beautiful playing.
I went back and forth between using two fingers versus one. Using just one seems to get more consistent tone and keeps you from getting on top of the beat—but it’s also harder for us mortals.
