Stent or Bypass Surgery?
Stenting procedure to open blocked heart vessels is not “simple” in select cases. Accordingly, these patients are used to be referred for open heart surgery (i.e., bypass surgery). Thanks to the development of technology, today, interventional cardiologists can open, if not all, most blocked heart vessels by interventional techniques without a need for surgery. In other words, this is achieved without opening the chest and stopping the heart.
