The basic equations of a transmission line have been obtained and solved. At frequencies of operation so high that the wavelength becomes comparable to physical dimensions of the apparatus, analysis cannot be made with circuit concept,e.g. ,in terms of lumped parameters equivalent circuits and hence it is preferable to consider directly electric and magnetic fields . Here the line has been analyzed in terms of voltage and current. The basic equations for the voltage and current are second order differential equations which has exponentially decaying solutions. The expression for the characteristic impedance of the line has been also defined.
