It seems a bit old fashion, but wave riding prejudice is perhaps one of the most common forms of microaggression in the water. Whether it’s longboarder versus shorboarder or single fins versus thrusters, the surf world loves to segregate themselves into camps. And although today’s surfing culture has become much more inclusive regarding the “ride anything” demeanor, there still remains a line in the sand, so to speak, between those who stand erect and those who choose a more planar wave riding method.


Taking a little bit of advice from one of the greatest wave riders of all time, I made sure to take notice in North Africa by Following the Sponge.
