In a word, a celestial sniper. Although any fast bird of prey is sometimes called a falcon. Some out of ignorance, and others perhaps because they haven't seen one up close. And there's nothing surprising. It has a speed inconceivable to other birds, as you can see here. It doesn't just soar like an eagle; it literally cuts through the sky like a hawk, only even faster. So how can you tell this celestial ace from an eagle or a hawk? Or perhaps it's not a falcon at all, but a gyrfalcon, a kestrel, a merlin, or perhaps a saker falcon or a red-footed falcon? And someone will conclude, "A peregrine falcon is a true falcon!" without even realizing what a saker falcon is, much less a red-footed falcon. Basically, we simply need to figure this out.
