The music for Our Prayer to Thee is from a famous Welsh song, originally titled Myfanwy, composed by Joseph Parry (1841-1903) and lyrics written by Richard Davies (1833 – 1877) and was first published in 1875.
Since then, the music has had different lyrics put to it, including the hymn, O Home Beloved, with lyrics by Evan Stephens. That version was included in The Songs of Zion of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1918 and was also included in the church's 1985 Hymns.
This version of the hymn has new words by Russell M. Nelson, current president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The hymn has a very calming and peaceful feel to it, very befitting of a prayer to the Lord.
This arrangement of the hymn for mixed voices and piano or organ accompaniment is designed to be accessible to most church choirs and is perfect for worship services.
